Licensing overview

How it works today

PowerToolBox is free while in early access. Download the zip, extract it, run PowerToolBox.exe. There is no license key, no activation, no account, and no credit card.

The app does ship with a licensing client built in — trial tracking, offline grace, and server validation against TerraKode’s API — but it is switched off and nothing in the app calls it. Nothing expires, nothing counts days, and nothing contacts a server to check whether you are allowed to run the app.

What changes when paid licensing launches

A paid licensing model is planned. The details below reflect the client that ships, dormant, in 1.2.0 and may still change before release. No pricing and no launch date have been announced.

Under the planned model:

  • A 14-day trial starts on first launch.
  • After the trial, you activate the app with a license key in the format PWR-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX.
  • Activation binds the key to a machine fingerprint and validates it against TerraKode’s API.
  • After the last successful validation, the app keeps working offline for 72 hours before it needs to reach the licensing server again.
  • Deactivating a machine frees the seat, so you can move the key to a new machine.

Existing installs keep working under the planned model. Nothing already on your machine would be remotely disabled. How an early-access install transitions into the trial period is still subject to change.

What does not change

PowerToolBox stays a local desktop tool, with or without paid licensing. Audit data — flow definitions, findings, scores, and reports — never leaves your machine. That does not change when licensing ships.

Today the app makes network calls only to Microsoft endpoints: Entra ID for sign-in, the Power Platform and Dataverse APIs, and Microsoft connector-icon hosts. The planned model adds license validation calls to TerraKode’s API. Everything else stays as it is.

When pricing and launch details are published, they will appear here and in the FAQ. Until then, the app is free as described above. If you have questions about licensing, contact support.
