Frequently asked questions
- Is PowerToolBox really free?
- Yes, while in early access. No license key, no account, no credit card. When paid licensing launches, copies you already have keep working.
- What do I need before my first audit?
- Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit, plus a Microsoft Entra ID app registration and the Power Platform Admin role in the tenant. Documenting exported flows offline needs neither.
- What permissions does the app registration need?
- Application permissions for Microsoft Graph (User.Read, Directory.Read.All) and the Power Platform API (Environment.Read, Flow.Read.All). The connecting-your-tenant docs walk through the setup.
- Can I audit more than one tenant?
- Yes — one tenant per app launch, each with its own app registration. The multiple-tenants page in the docs has the 1.2.0 routine.
- Does it work offline?
- The Flow Documentation tool works fully offline on exported files. Audits need internet access to reach the Power Platform APIs.
- Where are reports and logs stored?
- Reports go wherever you choose in the export Save-As dialog. Logs live under %APPDATA%\PowerToolBox\logs with secrets redacted before anything is written.
- How do updates work?
- Manually. Download the new zip, extract it over the old files, and your saved connections and settings carry over — they live under %APPDATA%, not next to the executable.
